A Week to go! While TEDxFortBonifacio is by invitation only, we are giving away 10 or more seats to the noisiest, biggest fans! Contest mechanics are here. Also, details on Twitter, Facebook and the webcast on Ustream are here too!

7 Days to Go!

Invitation Only. We’re often asked how much tickets cost or if it is open to all. Unfortunately, as we have announced in the event page, it is by invitation only.

Contest. The good news is, we have at least 10 (possibly more) seats that we are giving away to the TEDx fan community that is quickly forming! In other words, no you cannot buy a ticket- but you can win it! There’s a quick questionnaire that asks simple questions about you and why you want to go. You’ll be picked according to these 3 criteria: 1 how much of a fan you are, 2 your ability to spread whatever you will learn, 3 what you’re gonna do *now* to plug/announce TEDx! Simple really. ALL ENTRIES MUST COME IN BEFORE 3AM SATURDAY! Ready? Let’s begin! Click here to join the contest!

Live Webcast. If only 150 people can come to event, what’s the point of making so much noise about it? Here’s why- we’re streaming it LIVE. In other words- wherever you may be in the world, as long as you’re logged in our USTREAM page, you can watch live. There’s also a chat box for you to talk with people about what you’re watching. Awesome eh? Here’s the link so you don’t forget: http://www.tedxfortbonifacio.com/webcast Please log in EARLY! Event starts at 5pm so I’ll try to set this thing up as early as 4:30 so you can log in early and start .. er.. bonding with people there.. To stay totally updated in real time, just follow us on Twitter.

Some “TIPS” if you’re joining the contest:

Facebook. Are you a fan yet? Fan us up. Announce it there too. Don’t SPAM your friends. Just talk about the event sincerely and let them know that the webcast is on and the speakers are awesome. We have 193 fans on Facebook!

Twitter. Are you even on Twitter? We (the team) highly recommend that you get on Twitter. And when you do, follow us. That way you get to find out the lastest updates as they happen (like webcast details on the event itself). And if you’re joining the contest- Tweeting about us helps! Actually even if you don’t join the contest- please please please tweet about us. Tweet about the webcast too so your friends log on and you can watch together. When you tweet, always end the message with @tedxfort so that we can track what you’re saying!

Gene says: “Here are my favorites”

Ben Dunlap
Ben Dunlap tells us via the story of Sandor Teszler what one man’s courage to stand up for what is right, can do to make this world a better place to live. To have unshakeable resolve when the bullies of this world force you to sell out is the shoe we need to step into and wear and walk with.

JK Rowling
Rowling teaches us that success and failure are not absolute. In the end it is us that decides what failure or success is. I loved it when she said that those who willfully refuse to imagine actually see more monsters. I am set free again when she mentions that we have the power to imagine better. Think about it – “the power to imagine better.” Oh the things we could do with that thought in our hearts.

Sir Ken Robinson
Because it is now more than ever the time to rethink how education is being done in our schools. If imagination is key in innovation and creativity but we have educational systems that limit if not kill these then all we will have to offer are at best rehashed ideas that have been overused and have lost their power.

Thank you for the response and am really looking forward to be part of TEDxFortBonifacio.

First, about myself. I currently work as a campaigner for an environmental health NGO called Health Care Without Harm – my work specifically focuses on eliminating hazardous chemicals being used in the health care industry and right now we are focused on eliminating mercury in measuring devices. I am also a photographer but focused more on photojournalism and animal photography and advocacy.

My favorite TED videos of course the standard answer is a lot, but let me give you two of my favorite and don’t get that puzzled look when I tell you that they are both from Africa, since TED was introduced to me by my biking buddy from Tanzania I have become interested in stories from Africa. I also prefer TED stories from people who have risen from adversity and shows love for country despite all odds.

My firs is Emmanuel Jal, is the founder of GUA Africa which helps people who were affected by war and poverty. Mr Jal tells his story in the form of rap which makes his story more personal and more endearing. He also pays tribute to a lady who helped him out during those times of need and now he sorts of “pays back” that kindness through GUA Africa. His story and organization can be found here.

My second one is William Kamkwamba with his story ” The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind” his book and his TED appearance is an inspiration not only to Africans but also to people who are faced with similar problems. His book can be found here and his TED appearance here

Thank you again for allowing me to share my two personal favorites. Hoping to be part of TEDx Fort Bonifacio.

…meets an immovable object? To begin with, the Bernido couple will argue that the problem of educating our nation is not an immovable one. Few would argue however, the tenacity of this couple in meeting that challenge head on. Their innovative “Learning Physics as a Nation” – which works with students in poverty, in public schools of rural areas- has produced awesome results in just 8 years. Their students are passing the UP entrance exams. They have also built a research center in Bohol which attracts experts from around the world- including Nobel Prize winners, connecting us with the global community of scientists.

They have recently confirmed to be our 5th speaker for the event on February 17.
