The Global Development Marketplace (DM2009), a competitive grant program for innovation in development administered by the World Bank has recently concluded.

Its theme was entitled “100 Ideas to Save the Planet” and there were 1,700 entries from all over the world. 25 were chosen to receive grants for up to $200,000 each. 4 who won were Filipino. Dr. David Manalo was one of them. Above you see him holding his two trophies (credit to the World Bank for photo).

His winning entry was an early warning system for communities to protect them from floods and landslides. It also aims to train the communities to improve their response in such calamities.
